Malaysia proved their doubters wrong when they beat Indonesia 2-0 in their final AFF Suzuki Group B match at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium Saturday night to qualify for the semi-finals.
Malaysia, who started the match slow, came alive after the 20th minute with goals from winger Azammuddin Mohd Akil in the 26th minute and right-back Mahali Jasuli in the 29th minute.
The match’s turning point came in when winger Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor was moved to the right flank to push Azammuddin to the left and combine with right back Mahali Jasuli.
In another Group B match Saturday, Singapore demolished any hope Laos had of qualifying for semi-finals, winning 4-3 at the Shah Alam Stadium.
A brace from captain Shahril Ishak (45th and 52nd minutes) cancelled out goals from Khampheng Sayavitthi (21th) and Keonviengpheth Lithideth (39th).
