IMAX reach agreement with TGV Cinemas

Imax Corp. has another revenue-sharing deal with an Asian partner, this time in Malaysia.

Toronto-based Imax said it has pacted with TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd to install a new digital theater in a Sunway Pyramid Shopping Center multiplex outside Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian theater will open by December 15, 2011, in time to screen a super-sized version of Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, starring Tom Cruise.

The TGV Cinemas agreement, which will see Imax and the Malaysian exhibitor share the cost and risk of launching the large format theater, follows recent joint venture agreements in the Asian market with the Korean media conglomerate CJ CGV Co. Ltd and Wanda Cinemas, China’s largest theater chain.
