16-year-old Sheikh Akmal Sheikh Imam, aptly nicknamed “Panjang” (tall) by friends, entered the Malaysia Book of Records as the tallest teenager in the country, standing over everyone else at 2.04m.
“I am proud to have my name in the Malaysia Book of Records. It’s no big deal being called Panjang.
“I have got used to it. Anyway, my family and friends are very encouraging and always tell me that I am special.
“I do find it difficult to lead a normal life but my family is always there to help me.”
The youngest of three siblings, Sheikh Akmal said the hurdles he faced were getting into his father’s Proton Iswara and buying clothes that fit.
“Most of the time, I have to tailor-make my pants and I prefer to sleep on the floor or sofa which is much more comfortable than the bed,” he said when met at his home in Seremban 2.
Despite these difficulties, Sheikh Akmal, who is naturally drawn to volleyball and basketball in school, said he was thankful for being healthy.
